I'm Sasaki, the representative director of the Patients' Association, which advances medical care for thyroid eye disease.
This patient association is working toward the advancement of medical care for thyroid eye disease in Japan.
Specifically, we are engaged in the following three businesses.
(1) Business to work on society so that patients can receive appropriate diagnosis and treatment of thyroid ophthalmopathy and to be covered by insurance (2) Thyroid to patients and relatives Business to provide information on ophthalmopathy and its treatment (3) Business to deepen friendship and interaction with patients with thyroid ophthalmopathy and close relatives

Medical care for thyroid eye disease in Japan has many challenges.
First of all, there are few doctors in Japan who can diagnose and treat thyroid ophthalmopathy, and patients are forced to go to a distant medical institution to receive diagnosis and treatment.
The financial and time burden is enormous.
Also, in Japan, doctors who cannot diagnose and treat thyroid eye disease diagnose and treat patients without being aware of it or pretending that it can be done, and as a result, many patients are in the active phase of thyroid eye disease. I haven't been able to get proper treatment and my condition has worsened.
Thus, we patients with thyroid eye disease not only suffer from the disease itself, but also
We are also suffering from the challenges of medical care for thyroid eye disease in Japan.

In addition, from 2018 to the present, the insurance coverage of orbital decompression surgery for thyroid ophthalmopathy has been cut off or scored low without a clear rationale.
These circumstances also force us patients to suffer from institutional social persecution.

We, the patients suffering from thyroid ophthalmopathy, could not overlook the situation surrounding the medical treatment of thyroid ophthalmopathy, so we set up this patient's association.
We hope that patients with thyroid eye disease will be able to receive appropriate treatment for the disease and that they will be covered by insurance.
And we will speak out and act on the current situation that makes them difficult.

With the support of many people, this patient association acquired legal personality in December 2020 and became a general incorporated association.
This patient association is a patient association that has just been incorporated, but I hope that we can continue our activities with the help of all of you.
I think that it is the first time for me to manage the Patients'Association, but I would like to grow together with the Patients' Association.
We look forward to your continued support of this patient association.

December 19, 2020 Patients' Association for advancing medical care for thyroid eye disease
